Link's Awakening has two versions, the original GameBoy version, and the remastered color version. There are then three versions within each of these two - 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2.

Some glitches will only work on a specific version of the game, In which case you should check the glitch header at the top of the page.

B&W
 If your start screen looks like this, you have the version referred to as "B&W".

Version 1.0: If you are able to perform the No Fishing glitch, you have version 1.0.
Version 1.1: If the dialogue looks like this at the beginning of the game: "How did I know your name? You think it's weird eh? Well, I saw it on back of this shield!"
(Note the missing word 'the' before the word 'back'.) And, you cannot perform the glitch above then you have version 1.1.
Version 1.2:
If you are able to perform the Version 1.0 method and in the beginning dialogue, 'the' has been added before the word 'back', then you have version 1.2.

(Note: It appears Version 1.2 for some reason, the 1.0 version specific bugs appear in it as working fine. Supposedly Nintendo used the 1.0 version for the basis of 1.2 instead of 1.1 for unknown reasons..)

DX
 If your start screen looks like this, you have the version reffered to as "DX" (obviously this screen will be in 4 shades of grey if you are playing on an older GameBoy).
