There is some interesting stuff hidden in the Gerudo Fortress. Of course, you'll only see it if you can get there as Child Link...
You see, glitches and cheat devices have allowed people to break into the Gerudo Fortress as Child Link. A few odd things have been discovered that almost imply the former presence of a beta scenario in the game...
Let's look at things in order. What order? It should become apparent as you read.

Gerudo Valley
There is some interesting stuff in the Gerudo Valley -- at least, there is when you go there as Child Link. There are two Gerudo guards patrolling the area behind the bridge. There are some crates and torches, both of the Hookshottable variety.
What if Child Link could use the Hookshot? If Child Link could use the Hookshot, then you could get past the bridge while in the past; from there, you would have to evade the two Gerudo guards and sneak into Gerudo Fortress. Of course, Child Link can't use the Hookshot, so he can't get into Gerudo Fortress without glitches. But what if, at one time, the developers planned to have Child Link Hookshot across the valley?
Gerudo Fortress
Then, he could enter Gerudo Fortress. From there, he could sneak through the Thieves' Hideout (the interior of the Fortress) and make his way to the roof of the jail cell that the Gerudo guards throw him into when they capture him. And what's on that roof?
Why, it's a treasure chest and a Piece of Heart![1] And this Piece of Heart is actually an extra Piece of Heart -- you can obtain it even after upgrading your health meter to the maximum! And as for the treasure chest? It's got an Odd Mushroom. Why the Odd Mushroom? It makes no sense to have a trading sequence item in a treasure chest!
What if it was a placeholder? A placeholder for a beta item? What if this is all part of a beta scenario? Well, where would that scenario lead? Probably the
Spirit Temple
We know that Child Link has a key role in the completion of the Spirit Temple; he gets there by warping to the Desert Colossus. What if he was originally meant to take the "ordinary" route that Adult Link takes to get there? Such a scenario could've been scrapped for a few reasons:
- The developers thought that making the player have to warp there would be cleverer.
- The developers didn't want to have to "Hookshot-proof" all of the Child Link maps.
- There was some other problem.
Conclusion
Well, it's hard to draw a precise conclusion. Really, this is all just speculation -- one of many possible explanations for all of the phenomena mentioned above. But it's an interesting guess, isn't it?
