Instructions

  1. Load a saved game or start a new one.
  2. Do something -- get a new item, kill some Golden Skulltulas, etc.
  3. Pause the game.
  4. Do the Crooked Cartridge trick.
  5. Save the game.
  6. Push the cartridge back in and reset.
  7. Load your saved game (provided it hasn't been deleted -- and it probably has).

Now, look at the subscreens, something (usually the items) should have been corrupted.

Result

Any of the following can result from this trick:

  • Time changing from day to night, or vise versa.
  • Items, or empty item slots, replaced with items that have an icon made of scrambled pixels and the name "Feuer-pfeil" (German for "Fire Arrow"). When used, the items turn out to be bottles half full of milk. This will have different results on the NTSC versions.
  • Save file turned into a URA Zelda save file.
  • Save file(s) deleted.
  • Game crashes when turned on.
  • Save file regression, e.g.: you may be able to see cutscenes you've already seen again.

Note: If, when you try this trick, nothing at all happens (as though you hadn't even saved the game), then you are probably pulling the cartridge out too much; you have to pull it out just enough to make the sound start screwing up.
