Instructions

  1. Go to the Curiosity Shop on any day. You must have a bottle with something in it to sell.
  2. Talk to the Curiosity Shop Owner and show him your bottle when he asks you to.
  3. He will tell you how much he will pay you for this bottle. Now, select Yes and immediately press the Start button.
  4. If you're lucky, the Pause menu should open now. Equip the item you want to replace with a bottle over the bottle you're selling.
  5. Unpause the game.

Result

The item you put on the C button should now have turned into an empty bottle. The bottle you originally sold will still be in your inventory (so you can repeat the trick if you want). You can replace all items (including masks) except for the three magic arrows. Any "key" items will be gone forever when you replace them with a bottle, items which have a quantity (like bombs) can be regained by collecting these items.

Oddities

  • If you replace the Ocarina of Time with a bottle, the game will think you're in the first cycle of the game. This has various effects, like Termina Field being completely empty (like it is when you collect the Moon's Tear in the first cycle of the game)
  • An alternative method is to put any item that can be used in the curiosity shop on a C button and pressing that button instead of the Start button at step 3. Such items are all masks except the Fierce Deity mask, the ocarina, the pictograph, any item in the moon's tear, room key and priority mail slot, and any bottle with or without something in it. If you do it with transformation masks, Link will transform and then the mask you're currently wearing will be replaced with an empty bottle. You can actually get stuck in one of Link's forms if you do this with all masks and have the last mask be a transformation mask. However, you can easily return to normal Link by burning (Deku, Zora) or drowning (Goron).
