Ocarina of Time Miscellaneous Glitches - Infinite Sword Glitch
This glitch can also be performed in Majora's Mask.
Instructions
- Equip any sword and shield. If playing as Child Link, you must equip the Deku Shield.
- Find any object that you can Check, Talk, Examine -- anything that brings up a message box when you press A near it -- and stand close enough that the A icon changes to show the appropriate action. This will also work using bombs, by picking it up without needing to bring up a message box (see notes below).
- Hold R to go into a defense crouch.
- Press B to do a crouch stab attack, and while Link is stabbing, press A to perform the indicated action.
Result
Link should stop mid-stab and start interacting with the object, opening up a message box. Close the message box. You should notice a white glow trailing the edge of the sword, and the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen should still present even though you're not holding Z.
What's happening is, the sword is constantly "attacking", such that anything that touches it will react as though it was sliced. Additionally, you'll find that Link can't run off of ledges (he acts as though he's running against an invisible wall) and the camera will behave oddly.
Ending the Glitch
The following actions will end the glitch.
- Swinging the sword.
- Pressing R without first holding Z.
- Leaving the area.
- Getting hurt.
It should be noted that if you take out an action, or otherwise perform any action that makes Link sheath his sword, the sword will constantly be attacking, but it will be anchored to Link's back. To take it out without ending the glitch, press B while backflipping.
Notes
The glitch can also be performed with objects you can pick up (such as bombs). Just perform the steps above. When you did it correctly Link will pick the object up, now just throw it away and your sword will be constantly active. Using bombs requires the glitch to be done more quickly so you'll have time to throw it away before it explodes and hurts you.

- Infinite Heart Pieces: As the name suggests, get lots of heart pieces!
- Adult Link Deku Tree: Get into the Deku Tree as an adult.
- Steal Epona: Get Epona before winning her.
Cucco Dance: Spin around while holding a cucco.
