Would Virtual Console MM count as 1.4 or 1.3 still? - Death99

Do you know of any differences between the two? (NGC and VC) It's possible that they use the same emulator in which case they should be the same, but if a new or improved emulator was written then there are likely to be some differences. Zcwikiadmin 03:22, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

I'll try to see sometime this week, I'll compare if any glitches noted here works or not. If not, its likely that its a new version to fix certain glitches. - Death99

I tried out the 4th day glitch and it all worked great on the VC version. The only noticeable difference I noticed using that glitch was the game did not crash in the shooting gallery, and the gossip statue or happy sales man. Could this possibly mean that the VC version has some differences than the N64 version?--Death99 18:16, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Not crashing is a result of the game being emulated, the NGC version of OoT also doesn't crash on some glitches that do on the N64. Zcwikiadmin 05:26, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

I heard that there were two versions of PAL released. 1.0 and 1.1. Does anyone know if this is true?--Death99 14:02, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

A list of French text differences points to there indeed being two different N64 PAL revisions. Wonder which one made the PAL Virtual Console?
Speaking of PAL differences, is it possible anyone can document whatever different effects, if any, Bottle Corruption has on either of the PAL versions? I've only got USA N64 version myself...--Pikachu 21:21, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

So I have heard that there is two versions of JPN Majora's Mask. v1.0 and v1.1. I have no idea what's changed between the two. If anyone at all has anymore information on this, please write it down. Also to note, there is a European v1.0 and v1.1.--death99 23:32, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

I messed around with Japanese v1.1 today. It's almost as crappy as v1.0, but it has two saving graces. Namely:
- You can use the Z-camera on top of the walls of Deku Palace
- Pirates' Fortress actually has music at night

I have yet to notice any other differences between J1.0 and J1.1.
So for all practical purposes, the difference is zero. -- Prince Kassad 06:37, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
There's a few other differences as well, at least one of which we could potentially document as a glitch...--Pikachu 21:21, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps - given the uncertainty of exactly how many versions exist - it would be a good idea to revamp the version names with something more specific where possible. For the N64 games this would be the compile date(+ system emulated on where applicable). This gives anyone a simple way to find out exactly which version they have(crash and check the debugger) and removes any possible confusion, assuming there are no versions which are edited versions of earlier compiled versions(surely not! x.x). The whole 1.x thing is just a leftover of Gameshark codes if I'm not mistaken, and they only change version with differences in ASM size/layout/function. Whaddayathink? I like this idea better than the current format. It sounds alot more organized and less complicated. It's just a matter of somehow getting the build dates of all the different versions. As of right now, these are the only versions I know of: 1.0, 1.1 (N64), 2.0 (GC) JPN; 1.0 (N64), 2.0 (GC) USA; 1.0 (N64), 1.1, 2.0 (GC) PAL. So we just need people to get versions for the N64 ones. (No idea how to get the ones for Gamecube though if someone could shed some light on that.) death99 19:34, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Here are all the build dates; you can find them yourself by opening the ROM in your favorite emulator and using a program like MHS to search for the string "dlezrs@a":

N64:

Japanese (JPN) v1.0: 00-03-31 02:22:21

JPN v1.1: 00-04-04 09:34:16

USA: 00-07-31 17:04:16

European (PAL) v1.0: 00-09-25 11:16:53

PAL v1.1: 00-09-29 09:29:41

All GCN versions are the same except for text, so you can just use the label "GCN" for them all. They do, however, have different build dates:

USA: 03-08-26 04:20:25

PAL: 03-10-04 00:40:20

JPN: 03-11-06 01:25:18

The VC version is simply an emulated version of the N64 ROM; Japanese VC uses JPN v1.1, European VC uses PAL v1.1, and the American VC uses the only American N64 release. All differences between the N64 and VC versions are caused by the emulator; the ROMs are identical down to the build date.

There are also a few special versions of MM that were never meant to be released commercially:

Debug ROM: Released by cendamos, it appears to be a modified version of PAL v1.1.

- Build date: 00-09-29 09:29:05

Preview Demo: Given to stores in the US so that people could try out the game. It retains a few Japanese quirks (like the clock still saying "0") and has scores of text differences, probably more than all other versions put together.

- Build date: 00-07-12 16:14:06

Prototype: I don't know if this ROM was ever made public; ASSEMblerEX is the one who originally bought it, though.

- Build date: 00-07-06 16:46:35

To my knowledge, this is every version of MM ever released. - --Darkeye14 23:14, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Thank you Darkeye14 for that information! --death99 23:53, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Seeing as there is a 1.0 and 1.1 for both JPN and PAL, should something be done about the glitch header for MM? I'm not quite sure on how to approach this one. --death99 07:55, 2 July 2011 (CDT)
