ZeldaChaos:Community Portal

From ZeldaChaos
Jump to: navigation, search

To be honest, I'm not sure what should go here. I mean, we're vastly different from Wikipedia (in terms of our content and our relative "newness"), so Wikipedia's Community portal isn't exactly a suitable model...

I'm creating this page because there needs to be a place where users here can discuss and collaborate on issues such as pages needing renaming, articles needing elaboration, glitches needing screenshots or verification, policies needing creation, stuff like that.

So I guess I'll just create the appropriate headings for such things now. When we figure out exactly what we want on this page, we should probably change this description to something... well, better.

Also, please remember that when posting here (as with talk pages, because right now, at least, this is really just a big talk page in the ZeldaChaos: namespace), you should sign your comments with "~~~~", which automatically adds your "signature" to the page (a timestamp and a link to your userpage). PediaPress

I'm assuming I post this here... Well, I was wondering if you could get the plugin for PediaPress, it would be great if people could buy a book of glitches. The worlds biggest LoZ glitch book, or just a book of glitches you choose from. Whatcha think? --SiggyWILD.png(Me Contributions My Talk) 18:56, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm not quite sure how you would go about making whole Zelda Glitch books, but if you need any plugin on the wiki, JayTheHam is the only person with the privileges to add plugins and stuff to the site. You can contact him at his Talk Page. - Zafum 19:18, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Featured Glitch!

I know there's not much of a community on Zelda Chaos for this to really work perfectly, but I would like to get together a "Featured Glitch" page. I'm not yet completely sure how I would do it, and I'm not going to do it unless there's consent with it, but there would probably be a vote of some sort, and a new featured glitch on the front page once a month. - Zafum

Any Comments/Suggestions? - Zafum

That sounds interesting. I'm just curious of how the voting part would work out. --Death99 16:50, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
I was thinking that there would be a page where people could add glitches to be voted upon. For the voting, there would be a support and an oppose section under each glitch, and every month, the glitch that had the most supporters(minus opposers) would be featured on the front page. When the new glitch is featured on the front page, then any glitches left that have more opposers that supporters will be removed from the featured glitch page. There would also be some sort of archive for past featured glitches. - - -
- - - I'm not sure if something like that would really work that well on this wiki, since it has so few members who actually see the site regularly; though if I were to post something about it on the front page, it might encourage more activity on the wiki, possibly even encourage more people to become members. Any more thoughts about it? Anybody think it's worth a try? - Zafum
You can see the featured glitch page here. Any thoughts on it, before I try it out? - Zafum 00:14, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

ZeldaChaos Affiliation Request

Hello all, I am Cipriano 119, staff member over at ZeldaWiki.org. Lately, we have been made aware of the success of this site by the more glitch-savvy users of our site and are interested in collaborating towards an affiliation! An affiliation is not as daunting as it may seem, and as we both deal with similar topics in respect to the Zelda series, we could benefit enormously from the shared userbase provided by the linked connection of our sites. All we ask is that our link exists somewhere on your wiki or in the sidebar, and we shall do the same with your wiki on our site. A collaboration between us will not only give this wiki a jump in viewage from our userbase, but will fully complete the mission of wikis dedicated to the Zelda universe: to provide the best, most widespread information possible.

I hope to hear from you soon! Cipriano 119 03:42, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

Sound's pretty cool :) I don't think he checks here as often as he used to. So your best bet would be to email him. (His email is in the "About ZeldaChaos" link at the bottom.) --Death99 19:39, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
I wish I could say that I was able to successfully contact him, however, after several emails, I have still not received any sort of response. ZeldaWiki would still love to go through with the affiliation, if it is possible! Cipriano 119 15:32, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Well that's unfortunate. Hopefully he will get back to you sometime. Good luck! --Death99 18:26, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
My apologies! The email I had on the about page was wrong, no idea why that was the case, it's fixed now. Anyhoo, this is an excellent idea, I have added a link to ZW in our sidebar(took me a few atttempts ;)) Zcwikiadmin 01:06, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Great! We have added you guys to our Affiliates page and have made an announcement on both our main page and our Facebook page. By the way, do you guys have an affiliation banner we could add to our page? :) Thank you! Dany36 00:49, 8 June 2010 (UTC)

A category for game mechanics

It may be helpful to have articles about glitch- or game-related concepts like loading points; in such a case, we'd need a category for them. There are some good articles about game mechanics on my userpage, but they're unsuitable for linking to in glitch descriptions because they're just subpages of my userpage and not formal articles. DavidJCobb: contribs 21:55, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

I could adapt those to normal articles, something like taking User:DavidJCobb/Actors and making GM:Actors, then adding a Category:Game Mechanics tag to them. Really just a question of what Game Mechanics aren't covered, and where these need to be linked to/from. --FEG 03:28, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

ZC-Specific Help Pages

It may be necessary (or, at the very least, more convenient) to have articles in the Help namespace for topics and concepts relating to this wiki -- things like the criteria needed to consider a glitch "verified". DavidJCobb: contribs 21:55, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

To-Do Lists

It may also be useful to have lists (or hidden categories) of articles that need something. Such lists would increase collaboration, as there would be a centralized list of improvements that can be made. Lists/categories could include things like "List of glitches without screenshots" (or just "Glitches without screenshots" if it's a category), or "List of glitches that need elaboration", etc., etc. Such lists or categories could be listed here, where editors and users can easily locate them. DavidJCobb: contribs 21:55, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Restructuring and Reorganizing

It seems to me that the wiki isn't set up as well as it could be. However, upon reflection I'm not sure what could be done to make improvements... Wiki software doesn't have any neat solutions for hierarchies... Subpages and pseudo-namespaces have massive titles and case-insensitivity, but categories and inheritance aren't as visible... I feel like something can be done, but I'm not sure what... Ah, in any case I'd rank this a minor issue, but I think that the current solution (placing the entire structure and hierarchy-ness of an article in its title) isn't scalable, in addition to having massive titles and case insensitivity. Like, subpages would be workable if there were a way to hide the "ancestors" in the article title, but since there isn't... I don't know. DavidJCobb: contribs 00:13, 20 April 2009 (UTC)

A background page

Hello! I've just written and submitted a guide to what can be done with the LttP underworld exploration glitches:
User:Tropylium/temporary
Is the "wikitable" class not usable here? This I think needs some formatting for the main table, at least, before this is suited for articlespace… Probably some checkup on caves, too.--Tropylium 23:05, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Improvements

Out of curiosity, I just want to know what the user base thinks about this wiki. If you have an idea for an improvement or have an opinion on how you feel as of right now of the structure of this wiki, please feel free to add your opinion. This wiki is kept alive by it's users, so I want you to help by saying your ideas and opinions. So, I ask everyone who uses this wiki on what can be one to improve it. Of course this is limited to those who have registered accounts though ;) --Death99

Explanations

Since we have explanations on how a glitch works for some glitches - is this good and should we have them for all pages eventually, or is it just some old experiment? -- Prince Kassad 00:12, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

I was actually gonna talk about that soon. Yes I agree it should be on all the pages. It can go at it's own pace as it is not a important thing at the moment. So feel free to add explanations whenever you want on whatever glitch. death99 00:42, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Mediawiki Upgrade

I just upgraded the wiki from 1.13.1 to 1.16.1. There are currently some issues still being worked out, I apologize for this issues. Some new features include the new vector skin and now the new shorter URL's! I'm slowly fixing things and this may last into tomorrow. Once again I apologize for this!

EDIT: I'm also aware of the broken images on the main page and in other places. I just have to reupload the images. This will probably happen somewhat tonight, and hopefully the rest tomorrow. Also, just in case I have also enabled the long URL's for compatibility. So the long URL's will still work, but the short URL's will be the new default.

EDIT2: Uploaded the missing images. Everything should be working as normal, if not then please note it down here and I will take a look at it. --death99 20:22, 20 January 2011 (CST)

That's really great! That also helps a lot with my image linking problem; no more needing to edit css files to do it. I'm just curious though, how do you have the access to upgrade the wiki? I had sort of thought that only JayTheHam had that ability to do things like that. - Zafum 21:21, 20 January 2011 (CST)
Oh, another thing. You may want to figure out how to enable file and image uploading. It's disabled by default. - Zafum 21:54, 20 January 2011 (CST)
death99 is helping me/us out by upgrading the wiki etc(i.e. doing it all because I am not good with that) Thanks :) Zcwikiadmin 06:55, 21 January 2011 (CST)
Okay uploads should be re-enabled again. --death99 07:31, 21 January 2011 (CST)

Antispam

Does anyone have an idea of what can be done to prevent these spambots? I was thinking of adding a custom question to registration pertaining to Zelda so bots cannot automatically crack it. But that alone may not be enough. --death99 08:25, 27 January 2011 (CST)

I found a good wikipedia article on it; hope this helps. - Zafum 12:10, 27 January 2011 (CST)
I wish... I already implemented a captcha, two anti bot fields where one has to be filled in and one has to remain blank and yet they still get past it. I don't know what would be the next thing to do. I've just recently added some more anti-spam mods to the wiki hoping it'll work. --death99 13:09, 27 January 2011 (CST)

OoT Intro Comparisons

I thought this could be interesting for someone. I don't know where to put this video so I decided to put it in here! Video. --VerführerSIG.JPG[Talk] [Contrib] 13:07, 4 December 2011 (CST)

Wiki skin

I decided this place probably should have a recolor instead of the typical white Mediawiki skin. The only problem I'm having is what the colors should be, so I'm letting the (rather small) community decide. Any ideas what colors it should be? I need a background color and a page color.

Note: BG color is the image you see in the background, and page color is the white background on all the pages. death99 15:56, 11 April 2012 (CDT)

Is it at all possible to upload a backround skin as Hyrule field in OoT 3D? That would look nice. I've seen something like that before. This is SLogan 20:41, 11 April 2012 (CDT), out
Green or yellow/gold would be the obvious 'Zelda-ry' choices but I'm not sure how good they'd look. I generally find having an image in the background (unless it's like the promo ones either side of the content you see on gaming websites) can spoil the page and make it look tacky. Also, there'd be no point on this as you can hardly see the BG anyway. If we're not going to recolour it, I think a pattern is the way to go. This could be a grass texture from one of the games or something else 'looped'. Curly 02:35, 12 April 2012 (CDT)
Thank you guys for your suggestions! To be honest, I was going to make a dark purple kind of feel, like the original Zelda Chaos page before the wiki came along. Which you can see here: [1]. However, I like both of your ideas as well, so I'll maybe make more than one skin and see how it goes. death99 08:37, 12 April 2012 (CDT)
